MSP (Media Sidebar Player) for Firefox
Play media files in the sidebar. Supports Windows Media Player, Real Player and Quicktime. You do require the WMP, Real Player and/or Quicktime plugins to be installed in Firefox to use this extension.

- Can open a file from local hard drive and play it in MSP

If you are worried about using ActiveX in Firefox then read this guide:

By default the latest ActiveX plugin for Firefox only allows access to WMP controls and nothing else - unless you configure to allow access.
